At Conga, we know that some of the best product ideas come straight from our customers. That’s why our Product and Engineering teams regularly review your submitted ideas, feature requests, and feedback. It’s more than just listening—it’s about achieving together to shape the future of our products to ensure they deliver real value. It’s one of the ways we reinforce our commitment to building solutions and incorporating innovation that truly meets your needs.
Discovery AI enhancements inspired by real use cases
Each quarter, the Conga Customer Community receives a wide range of ideas from customers to enhance Conga products. The Conga team takes time to thoroughly review and spot customer trends and patterns—two of which recently stood out for Discovery AI (DAI). These customer ideas can be viewed by logging into the community:
Allowing special characters in the folder name in Discovery AI
Refining folder-level status in Discovery AI
Conga discovered that both ideas were submitted by Legal and Contracts Managers from a global mining company. Their team was experiencing multiple challenges with DAI and suggested the above feature requests to make everyday operations easier.
DAI idea and use case—allow special character usage with folder names in DAI to properly list international companies and support languages other than English.
Like this company, many Conga customers do business internationally. Therefore, if users wanted to save a folder with, for example, an Asian company name, they had a limited set of characters and had to invent a name while keeping it easy to find. As you can imagine, those special aliases weren’t always easy to remember. Colleagues couldn’t search for unique names, nor find what they were seeking. As a result, the team experienced data corruption and errors.
The next challenge included misleading folder statuses. For example, when a user completed 1 out of 7 items, the folder status reflected a “complete” state. The status indicator was pulling a file’s completion at the folder level.
DAI idea and use case—refine the folder status to ensure it reflects “completed" only when all documents inside the folder are in a true complete state, accurately representing status.
This functionality was misleading, as not all documents inside the folder were finalized. As a result, folder statuses couldn’t be trusted. The Legal team had to check each folder manually to review individual document stages, and nothing matched. Bottlenecks slowed down other departments, as users waited for updates before moving forward, resulting in missed deadlines and lost hours validating that documents were finalized.
How Conga incorporated these customer ideas
The DAI idea implementation journey began when Shubham Harsh, Product Manager at Conga, completed an initial review of the ideas. While all customer ideas are important and considered for implementation, our team’s approach is centered around:
• A clear and easy-to-understand idea with straightforward requirements
• A feature or function that the team can easily implement (quick turnaround)
• Prioritizing by reviewing the effort vs. value (helps all customers, not just the submitter)
“Ideally, we should be figuring [these ideas] out and solving these on our own, but it's great that it's coming from customer suggestions,” Shubam explained. “I really love that when I saw these ideas, I felt like this was a common problem.”
Shubham worked closely with the Conga Engineering team to discuss the project. He, along with Preeti Wuppugundur (Manager, Software Engineering), Manda Sutijono (Sr. Manager, Software Engineering), Jagadish Revanna (Manager, Product Manager), and Mahdi Sharif (VP, Product Management), achieved together to make these ideas a reality for the customer. They discussed the scope, planned the timeline, incorporated it into a sprint, and coordinated to prep it for deployment.
The results
As a result of customer-driven innovations, our team implemented and shipped both ideas—one in April and the other in May 2025!
DAI changes were automatically updated within the solution, so all customers will experience the improvements immediately. The solution gained the ability to name a folder, with expanded characters, including Latin diacritical and 16-bit (non-Latin) alphabets. A limited set of characters (/, , *, :, ?, ", <, >, and |) remains restricted.
Also, DAI includes redefined folder statuses. Previously, the “completed status” indicator only showed a file’s completion at the folder level. Now, the folder status indicates "completed" only when all documents within the folder are in the completed state; otherwise, the indicated folder status remains "pending.”
All other existing functionality remains the same, and the UI/UX is clear, resulting in an easy, manageable display. These DAI changes will greatly benefit the original customer, and all Conga DAI customers will experience the enhancements.
